Modifying OOTB REST APIs

1) We need to modify getcases API by supplying our own filter criteria for selecting relevant cases from the work pool and then sending our customized case structure back 

Is there a tutorial or list of steps to guide the developers on how to do that?

Can you please create an activity and copy the all steps of pzGetCases activity to it. Please do the same if there are any pz* referencing rules as well.

As it is pz* activity, we are not allowed to modify the activity.
