Is it possible to create temporary child cases?

Can the Create Case step create temporary child cases?  Based on my research I do not believe so since I do not get the expected behavior if I configure the child case as temporary.  This seems logical since there is no key or handle for the parent case to reference since no PyID is generated for the child case.  However, the system allows me to configure this as if it is supported behavior.  Please confirm.
