Integration with Mainframe
Hi,
I understand that Pega has capabilities to integrate with external systems by a variety of technologies and standards such as, SOAP, HTTP, EJB, DotNet, SQL, Email, Java, JMS, MQ etc. When it comes to legacy "Mainframe" system at a large enterprise, are these integration method still applicable? I assume Mainframe is nothing like J2EE compliant, so there is no way to have such modern interfaces of SOAP or Java based technologies? Or if they introduce something called "ESB" between Mainframe and PRPC we can use standard integration method listed above? (I don't know much about this "ESB" thing)
I am just trying to connect the keywords around integration I know and "Mainframe".

Hi,
As per my knowledge, you can make use of these integration methods for legacy mainframes as well
Several ways to connect to a mainframe using Pega connectors:
- SOAP implementing a third-party plug-in (eg HostBridge) (ex Pega clients: Aegon UK, Group Health)
- IBM JCA tools for application-side screenscraping
- MQ to trigger CICS transactions (eg Pega Client: Medical Mutual of Ohio)
- Direct access to the application database if DB2 using SQL or stored procedures
- JCA adapter for direct communication to application VSAM files
- Communications with the CICS application via EJBs
- Java JCL to module to communicate output from Pega

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have two questions.
1. Is this "HostBridge" considered so called ESB? The brochure about HostBridge is really old (2007, see below) and there is not much information out there. Is this commonly used with PRPC? Does it work with PRPC 7x? I need to be sure this works before I recommend to my customer.

2. What is the most commonly used "ESB" product that PRPC surely works well with for multi-service integration? Could someone please list some product names?
