You can do a save as of the activity in your ruleset in Data class and then use it.

Create a wrapper section in the work class, which will include the section from the data class.

ex. you have a section called DataClassSection create a wrappersection and include the DataClassSection into it.

pass the wrapper section to the activity. 

I would not suggest the OOTB activity to save as in application rule set.

I too have the same issue . I have created a Wrapper section in Work class  and  in wrapper section i am referring a section(Specilized by different data classes). I am passing context through parameter.  I am trying to create pdf through pxCreatePDF where i am passing parameter as  Work class wrapper section and pdf name but Blank pdf is getting Created . Could any plz help me in that.

And one more think  i copied pxCreatePDf into data class but  problem is that  pxcreatepdf also attaches the pdf to case by taking the pzinskey  from the step page . I saved the pxcreatepdf into data class and my steppage is also of data class so problem is that pxcreatepdf was not able to pick pzinskey.

Have a section at work level and include your data one in work level section and pass it 

Another Approach is can you try calling flow from activity in which logic will be create pdf and specify your section in that smart shape.
