How to secure a standalone sma url in websphere

I would like to secure a standalone sma (i.e only SMA is deployed on the JVM as centralized tool to access all prpc nodes from dev to prod) in websphere. I have tried adding the security constraint in web.xml file of SMA war file but it didn't worked. Appreciate if anybody can tell me what's wrong with it.
