How to report usage by application?
We are getting a number of user stories from our business stakeholders who want to run reports with counts of users that actually use a given Pega application. Our implementation has a dozen or so applications, an d many users have access to various applications. Getting a measure of users for a given application doesn't appear to be supported OOB (I can see in pr_perf_stats user logins (but it appears this only shows the default application associate with that users operator profile). The named users reporting doesn't actually include any information about the user names or the applications.
I am certain someone has solved for this. Any pointers? or will this require some kind of extension of the login rules?

Have a look at the out of the box report pzOperatorsByApplication under Data-Admin-Operator-ID class.
You can modify the filter criteria to get all the user list.
