How to make Word Document Generation faster ?
Hi All,
I have a tricky problem that how to make word document generation faster :(
As of now, the document is generating by displaying each line> first code and then its value so that it's taking time. So here my question is do we have any option that "word document will not update each line by displaying but rather the entire document will display once completed".
and currently we are using 7.1.6 env.

Hi,
Can you consider upgrading to Pega 7.1.8 and later versions ?
Starting from Pega 7.1.8, word document generation is implemented at server side and this has been greatly enhanced in latest versions.

Thanks for your response.
But we are not sure, whether client is ready to upgrade to 7.1.8 as of now, so mean while do we have any other option to speed up the word document generation like as explained in my first comment.

Work document generation on your current version depends on many components like Silverlight, browser, MS office and desktop's patch updates etc. And most of issue will be resolved with Server side Word document generation, which 7.1.8+ versions supports.
On this version, I can only provide te below recommendations and this has to be investigated on an SR if the latency is huge.
1. Silverlight Prerequisites was installed on the desktop client.
2. Can you check if the system registry has this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Silverlight and that it has AllowElevatedTrustAppsInBrowser entry in there whose value is set to 1 on the machine where you are trying ?
Check this link for more details on this. (this should've been taken care otherwise you would be seeing errors)
3. Add your PRPC application host to trusted sites in your IE browser.

4. You can also run OOTB flow to check WordEmbedMergeTest if there are any latencies.
5. Ensure you are running the IE as administrator mode.

Sorry for delay response, we have tried all above options and result is same as existing :(
Long back I heard like we have to set Application.ScreenUpdating field to false but i don't have any idea that how to relate this field to word document fields/code and how to set this property. Here, can you please confirm the above analysis is correct/exists ?

Hi Saidibabu - just out interest : how long on average does it take you to generate a WORD document on your system ?
We have seen previously that one reason for a slow down (of a few tens of seconds to a minute even) can be down to a Microsoft Windows check for expired/revoked certificates ('OCSP')
If you run a FIDDLER whilst you run your test : check to see if you can see any requests being made to Microsoft (and others , like Cisco etc) that are taking up time (or even timing out).
If you do find that your Browser is making these automatic tests; then check to see whether your PC has access to the destination web sites in question ; I believe you might be able to switch off this check in Windows Control Panel (or possibly via the Registry) - but I don't know that for sure I'm afraid.
