How can i make a checkbox preselected i.e it should be checked by default?

You can open the checkbox properties and set the Default value as "true" to make it checked by default.

Are you using OOTB checkbox control ? Can you provide the cell properties screenshot ?
Maybe you can try clearing the browser cache and restart the browser or try giving true without quotes for default property.
