How Can I Validate a Value as a Datetime/Non-Datetime?
Hi,
I am looking for a out of the box way to validate the value stored in a property either is or isn't a valid datetime property. To be clear, I'm not looking to validate if the property type itself is a datetime, but that the value that has been saved to it can be evaluated as a datetime.
Currently we are trying to use an activity to do this, as this being done within a configuration section for a DDS rule, and as such, automatic property type validations/other validations that are done on the property in the section rule do not fire.
Currently, I have tried using a when rule with the OOB Validate Rule IsValidDateTimeProp, but that validate rule is not working as expected.
In brief:
I am looking for a way to validate that the value of a property can be evaluated as a Datetime, and this is being done in an activity.

I tried using "IsValidDate" validate rule in an activity under the "Property-Validate" method and it seems to be working.

Hi Bhavya,
It looks that that would work in most situations, however, one issue I did find with it was that it does not consider an blank value to be a legitimate entry for datetime.
As it is out of the box, I would suggest anyone else who encounters this issue uses Bhavya's solution.
In our case, we ended up making our own EditValidate rule using some other OOB code. I have included the full snippet below in case anyone else would find it relevant.
In our solution, we invoked the edit validate rule below as part of a when rule to detect when the entered value was not an allowed date/time value.
String prop = theProperty.getStringValue();
String regExDateTime = "[0-9]{4,8}(T[0-9]{3,6}([.][0-9]{3,6})?( GMT)+)?";
return prop.matches( regExDateTime );
Quick Summary:
In most cases, IsValidDate will work to resolve the stated issue, IsValidDateTimeProp will not.
We used a different solution in our case, which I have documented above.
However, if we were to do this again, IsValidDate would most likely be the best solution to adhere to Pega's best practices for maintanence.
