How to Call a method that is present in Custom Class/Classes

Hi I would like to know , how to Call a method that is present in Custom Class/Classes .

Like i have a Complex Math Calculation so i put it in a pqr method in XYZ Java Class and then just wanted to refer the XYZ.pqr in Java step method in Pega Activity .

Currently i am facing error as "XYZ cannot be resolved to a type"

Could you please help with List of Steps on how to Call Custom Java Class methods from Java step method in an Activity

One approach i could think of is:

1. Create a Jar out of it. 

2. Import the jar.

3. mention DSS setting to compile that jar

4. Use the java class. You need to give complete packagename.
