High Availibility in 6.1 SP2
Hi,
We were looking for recommendations to achieve high availibility for our Production environment which is on 6.1 SP2. Currently we have two tomcat instances accessing 1 Oracle DB.We do not have a failover database. There are regular patching work that occurs almost every 15 days where the application should be brought down, which we want to avoid.
The application performs a lot of background activities like file processing and generation etc via listeners and agents. We do not have plans to upgrade to Pega 7 in the near future to use this feature.

Can you elaborate regular patching work details? I wonder why the application has been brought down (I assume stop tomcat instances) in the first place. You mentioned that the application does a lot of background job, you may consider moving all the background tasks to one node (so that it does not affect end users when it has to be brought down). Now for nodes that are customer facing, do you have a load balancer in front of pega instances? As you may already be aware, you may not achieve full HA with 61sp2, but at least you can plan taking certain nodes out of rotation in a controlled pattern with a load balancer in front.

Thanks - the patching work includes OS updates and updates to the software installed on the App and DB Server. By Load balancer we can take care of App Server, but what if the patching is being done on the DB Server (which is only one) ? Hence we wanted a failover DB which we could switch during downtime of primary DB server.
