Help in uploading file without work object

Hi,

I need help in uploading file in external document management system directly. In our application, we do not have any work object; but we need to give a UI for the user to upload a file which will directly go to external system.
As per my understanding, Pega will first read the content of the file and convert them to Base64 Encoded and then only we can use that to make the service calls to document management system.
I tried using "FileUpload" control but somehow it is failing at the "UploadFile(boolean)" function.

Any help regarding this is really appreciated.
