Data migration from Pega 8.3 to 8.8.1
We need to migrate a database from an older platform (Pega version 8.3) to a new one (Pega version: 8.8.1). How can we do this? Is it possible to export the database from the older platform and import it into the new one? How does it work? Thanks.

Hi @ArulDevan, thank you for the information. But we have the challenge that we have a current customer environment on Pega Version 8.3 on a classic Client Server Setup. This database we want to migrate to a new environment with a Pega Version 8.8 in a Kubernetes cluster. Do you have an idea how to migrate the datebase in a correct way? @FrankR922 Hello Frank,
From Previous Post by ArulDevan, It means that, Keeping DB of one version from One Server (On-Prem / Containerized environment) and import to Containerized environment will not work.
Need to follow the below steps.
1. First, Please check the Containerized or Docker environment is built and what version is installed in it?
2. if your DB (Source in On-Prem) and migration to Cloud, Please take the necessary Backups in both Application and DB layer along with Middleware configurations.
3. Be it a PostgreSQL / MS-SQL DB in On-Prem, Get the process by Organization standard to export as Schema Backup / the Entire DB Backup is best suited as per your DBA.
4. Once the Required DB is exported, Check with necessary tools access for you and Process help from DBA end to migrate the DB to Cloud environment i.e. All the DB Connections need to be updated in Cloud based environment and check if you're able to start and bring up the application precisely or not.
5. Once the first time application startup is successful, Please get the required Pega version from Pega Portals and perform the upgrade script execution over the DB which will fulfill your purpose.

Hi @FrankR922: Apologies for the delay and thanks @KishoreSanagapalli for chipping in.
Please refer this for a similar query. This is a specific need, and there is no direct ways / docs to sync 2 code base. If you want to have one merged rule schema and one merged data schema in your target, then proper impact analysis to be done to validate the conflicting rules and data instances between both environments (example: you may have a common class in both envs with diff inheritance / different set of rules in both).
If the request is to migrate the schemas without merging, then you can follow default upgrade path. Data migration to be done based on your organization standards (as mentioned by Sai. example: AWS has DMS service to facilitate this). In this way you will have a database with different rules and data schema for each of your application. You can have different namespaces and pods for each of your application.

Hi @GiovanniP16615365: Exporting whole database from older version of PEGA and importing to new version won't work. Ideal way to do this is to go with the upgrade track. You can get information regarding version 8.8.1 upgrade here.
