We are currently deploying our first Pega application in our Company (Pega 7.3.1) but... we are facing huge user frustation due to the lack of support of the "Back button". Could we try to motivate our business user by promising any improvement in a near future (in version 8.x)?

The main issue for user friendlyness is when you go back and forth from a case list to case details. Going back to list from a case detail completely resets the list (sort order, filters, returns to page 1).
A work around would be to allow users to open a case in another navigator tab (CTRL + LEFT CLICK) but it doesn't seem to be allowed by Pega...

Why don't you try to open cases in Pega Tabs. You can have all the navigation selections and cases be opened in tabular format, once clicked or selected from either left panel or other tabs. Although Pega has restrictions in number of tabs that you can open together, but this could be easy for user to see all in single screen without impacting other selections. Like:
