alternative to connect-sql rule

Is there a specific alternative to connect-sql rule for running complex Structured Query Language statements including stored procedures to update or extract information from an external database?

I don't believe there is a better alternate for connect-SQL, however what is your PRPC version?

Could you package up the complexity into a single Stored Procedure on the DB ? That would simplify the usage from PRPC's point-of-view ?

Not an alternative but for simple browse, open, delete, or update operation against an external database, use the Connector and Metadata Accelerator to configure external table access. And use the Obj-Open, Obj-Browse, and other Obj- methods to interact with that table through a class that represents it and you do not need to create SQL connector rules.

PRPC version is 7.2 .The developer help has a note:

As of Pega 7.1.8, this rule is deprecated for data pages.
