Get data from external Azure DB to Pega

We have a requirement to get data in Pega from a column in a DB which is in Azure cloud. Does Pega support creating a class and doing external mapping to the external Azure DB to get the data? What would be the best approach for this?

Pega version: 8.1

I have used Azure in a different context but i do not think it will be a issue connecting to Azure SQL or SQL DB hosted on Azure and getting the data out . Keep an eye on the jdbc definition to be used .
