Robotics Connectivity to Different Databases
Hello,
Have an architectural question. If a robotic automation (RDA) has to connect to multiple databases (Oracle ,DB2, etc..) to read/write data from and needs to be deployed to 100+ users, Do we have to manually deploy oracle and DB2 jars along with Robotics runtime? Or is there a separate runtime installation that we can install that comes with all necessary drivers?
I am trying to understand how driver installations are solved with Pega Robotics and other vendors.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Quick question the OLE DB providers (DB2, Oracle) on the data link properties window are they part of Robotics installation? If yes then do we still have to install jdbc drivers on user desktop's?

it is not part of the installation. you need to install it separately, and regarding your first question unless its a dll which can be packaged as part of your package everything else needs to be handled outside Robot Manager.

sorry one last question. That means for all RDA solutions if i have to connect to external database we have to manually push jars to user desktop's right? This is how you have achieved in your projects?

Pega Robotics is a .NET product and connects to databases using previously installed .NET drivers. These drivers are database specific and are not part of our product. JDBC connection is not directly supported in this model. There are some external software options to do this (see the last response here) but the support available with the product is for .NET drivers.

Hi Jeff,
I was talking to .Net Developers and one question everyone was asking is, as the tool is Client oriented shouldn't all DLL's be packaged part of the Core Product installation. Do you know why these kind of core components were not included part of the Product releases ? these are bare minimum needs. Do you know if it is on product road map?

Typically drivers for databases are installed on machines not packaged with a solution. They may be part of .NET or part of on Oracle installation for instance. They are not part of our product. There are no plans to change this.
