Need Help in using attachments

In my Pega7 app, I want the user to upload a pdf file and I want to save the file in pega's internal DB (so that I can retrive the document if needed).

Could any one suggest me how to do that?

You may achieve this by creating a case, navigate to an action and clicking on the Attachment link that appears in the out of the box perform harness.  Simply select Attach File and the out of the box action will prompt you to browse for and attach the pdf.  After completing the action you should see a link in the same area that allows you to open it.  See below:
