Owen were you doing this in the 7.1 version of the course or 6.x version - Marketing Essentials?  I had similar issue, you have to enable macros and it opened multiple Excel windows , the window with the Add In was different than where I pasted the data but it worked. (I was doing the newer course)

Hi, I was on the latest course 7.1 - I'm not sure if I'll have time in the near future to try your suggestion, but if you're right and update to the instructions would help those that follow.  Thanks for taking the time to feedback.

Yes, just tried it again.  Ironically, my work colleague just had the same issue.    Security settings in Excel must allow macros.   Also when you click on "Edit in Excel" it opened 3 workbooks NBAM....., PRTemplate.... and a blank one with no name.    The blank one has the "Add In" tab and I believe you click "Add" after you pasted the data in the file that starts with NBAM....  Make sure you paste in B1, Import Status (first)  and Instance Key (last) columns are generated by Pega.     

Also note you must refresh the data when back in NBA Studio, maybe even close and reopen the Bulk Edit window to see the updated data.

When I edited data in Excel from data tables in FT/BC course it would only open one Excel file which is much simpler
