If I understand your end goal properly, I would recommend approaching the creation of the report definition in the Class of the workobject you want to open on click.

For example, let's say you have a case Purchase Order with potentially one or more line items of food.  The line items would be an embedded page of Purchase Order. You would optimize the Line Item embedded page for reporting.  That would create a declare index for line items.

You want to create a report that just displays all the line items that have been ordered for July.  You would create the report in the Purchase Order class.  But only display the information from the line items declare index.

On the data access tab the declare index would be added for line items.  You would also check the box to get the row key.  This will then make the row active and when clicked the Purchase Order work object will open.

But is it good to have join on two classes just to open the work object.

I have the work object key and id details on index instance.

Generally, in list views we have the ability to provide an activity on row click event, where I can have my own logic to open the work object and show.

How do we achieve this in report definition?

Are you trying to do this using though a report, or are you using the report definition as a data source of a Grid (data table) and trying to open a row from there?
