Pega Partner Connect: Capgemini: Demystifying Pega Constellation
On April 11, Srinivas Kakani, Braam Smith and Di Smith-Knowles from Pegasystems presented a webinar to Capgemini University entitled Demystifying Pega Constellation.
If you attended the session and have any questions, please post them below as a comment and one of the presenters will respond.

@MarissaRogers Excellent session, thanks. I guess for me the key question is not "Can Constellation do....?". I think (if I have understood today's session correctly) it is more around a methodology/thinking process on taking a client requirement/use case/UI design and ensuring that the application data model meets the needs and then defining the Constellation Views.
How will you support the development and business architects community with this "thinking" shift as this is the core challenge as mindsets are engrained into traditional UI modelling to overcome any data model constraints. Thought processes need to be retrained to looking at the data model and rearchitecting.

Hi @Jitesh ! Thanks for your question.
This session was important to drawing attention to the "thinking" shift that you talk about. Pega acknowledges that this is quite a different way of thinking compared to how development and business architects used to approach the UI for their applications. Hopefully you are now optimistic that executing the shift is within your power.
Here are some other support resources that you can use to progress further on the transition:
- Pega Academy: Constellation Adoption mission ... a deeper dive and hands-on challenges about many of the themes in this event
- Pega Community webinar: What's New in Pega Platform '24.1 - User Experience: Wednesday, May 15
- CLSA Community webinar: Advanced Constellation and What's New in Infinity '24.1

Thank you for the session on Pega constellation. Do our other Pega products like CS, Marketing, SA, KYC etc are constellation enabled? In every industry there are early pioneers, so if Pega can publish the customers who were bold in adapting constellation in each of above products, its easy to build confidence with our existing customer.

Hi @SateeshB6784 , thanks for your questions.
Each of our applications is adopting Constellation on its own lifecycle. Customer Service was available for Constellation as of Infinity '23; our other applications are on their way. When Infinity '24.1 launches soon, check the release notes for the applications you are interested in to learn to what extent they have completed their Constellation readiness.
A financial services client - LeasePlan - is one of our Constellation adoption success stories that was featured at last year's PegaWorld event. Watch the replay of their breakout session here.
You may also find additional resources to help you learn about how to position the value proposition of Constellation by searching for "Constellation" on the Partner Portal.

What does new UI/UX paradigm that comes with Pega Constellation mean for Pega Business Architects? And for UX/UI designers?

Hi @Niklas , thanks for your question!
My two top tips to Business Architects which align specifically to Constellation adoption are:
- Ensure workflow steps are defined with a business outcome in mind. Focus first on what the step needs to accomplish, rather than what the most passionate UX advocate thinks its screen must look like if given a blank canvas. UI configuration should be a function of fulfilling the business outcome
- Ensure data objects represent all of the application's key business entities, and build appropriate relationships between them and the cases that use them. This makes for a more understandable business architecture that also promotes reuse, standardized behavior, and will surface the most appropriate UX configuration options to the UI developers.
UX/UI Designers should familiarize themselves with design.pega.com to:

UX/UI Designers should familiarize themselves with design.pega.com to:
- Understand Constellation UX patterns.
- Learn about the presentation components in the design system, which are used in native Constellation user experiences and which can be used to compose custom components.
- Download Figma design kits to springboard design thinking for Constellation applications*.
UX/UI Designers will also get value out of the Pega Constellation View-Based UI for Designers mission on Pega Academy.
* Experience with native Constellation user experiences is an important prerequisite here. Proposing new combinations of Constellation's presentation components will require custom component development, which adds to the total cost of ownership (TCO). Minimize TCO by designing application experiences with native Constellation patterns to fulfil business outcomes where it makes sense.

For me, looking at a very simple example data model and case type helped me immensely in grasping how the View definition and Constellation-presented UX options work. The examples demo-ed from this session came from the exercise instance of the Manipulating application data challenge. The Assistance Request Case Type is easy to understand and the data model has just enough stuff in it to provide a basic (but not *too* basic!) example of a good View-based configuration.
As Braam mentions, making sure you have a well thought out data model first, goes a *long* way in working with the Constellation generated UI. And, more good news: Because this work is happening in App Studio, *everyone* (not just System Architects or Front End Developers) has the ability to create a great user experience, with the case type and data model at the center of it all.
