Expression builder in Correspondence rule

If i wanna manipulate a property using expression builder like i wanna extract a sub string its difficult in Correspondence rule to do it.I am doing all the manipulation in a Data transform and setting it to a Parameter and using that Parameter in Correspondence rule.If expression builder is used in Correspondence rule it will be useful
