Data page synchronous loading

Hi Team , 

I am going through the SAE I course , I came to know that the "Data pages load synchronously by default". Consider a scenario " loading data into a dropdown from a data page "

I just wanted to know

1)what is the difference between Synchronous and asynchronous loading , with respect to this scenario i have provided above ?

2)How i can change the above scenario to asyncronous ?

3)What are the advantages and disadvantages with each of them ?
