CLSA Community Meetup: AI and the Autonomous Enterprise (June 2023)
Following fast from some exciting announcements at PegaWorld iNspire 2023, our June 2023 event (conducted on June 28) focused on AI and the Autonomous Enterprise.
In this session, the Director of Pega's AI Lab - Peter van der Putten (@Peter van der Putten) - draws an analogy between the evolution of the autonomous car and the journey enterprises are currently taking to become autonomous. Peter redefines AI and shows its impact on the autonomous enterprise, and the capabilities Pega already has - and will soon introduce - to empower Pega's clients to fulfil this outcome.
Peter then showcased some of the boosters that will be available out of the box in Pega GenAI, delivered in preview mode in Infinity '23.
Principal Solutions Consultant and CLSA - Fernando Diaz De La Fuente (@DIAZF) - presented an architecture overview of both Pega Process AI and Pega GenAI, before demonstrating how you will be able to implement additional GenAI use cases (not limited to just ChatGPT) into Pega case management workflows using:
- A Case Designer smart-shape,
- The Connect-GenerativeAI rule type, and
- A Field Value rule.

| How different is the process mining in Pega compared to tools like Celonis? | There are many good process mining tools in the market such as Celonis. As a general statement, Pega's Process Mining capability is deeply integrated with Pega case, which makes it very easy to apply it to Pega case management. Pega Process Mining also has a very strong outcome focus, and is very easy to integrate with various data sources. |
| Is process mining studio available as part of the Pega Infinity '23 release? | Yes we are launching Process Mining as part of Pega Infinity '23, not just as preview but as the full feature set. Process Mining itself has GenAI powered features, those GenAI powered features can be in preview. |

| How to use GenAI in customized case life cycles with Low Code development capability? |
The use case that was showed in the video was end to end. It started with a simple prompt like "build me a loan application app" and it generated a full end to end prototype with case lifecycle, data model, personas, recommended services etc. We can also use GenAI more at a micro level, such as in the examples where we generated a sample picklist, or where we are generating test data. The whole idea is that this is AI as Augmented Intelligence, not just Artificial Intelligence. It creates all these starting points and then you can use the regular low code experience to refine. |
| How does GenAI case creation work in existing applications? How does it handle the class structure and data modelling to re-use existing resources? |
In this first version, it is purely based on world knowledge. It is not using information from the internal application. Remember that such information could be proprietary or sensitive. In future, we are looking towards connecting GenAI to tools and information, to understand what assets are already out there. Such as the existing services, class structure, cases etc. |

Does the prompt for GenAI in Pega take just natural languages or will it allow machine communication languages as well? For example, would it be possible to provide information based on XML as input? |
On the output side, we are already creating Pega artefacts. The example where we created an application from a single sentence was a good example, or the one where we create a Pega insights report. There are some use cases where we also need to "read" Pega artefacts. For instance, in the Insights use case it needs to understand what fields are available. |
| Are we storing the history of interactions with GenAI in Pega? | Yes the idea is that the GenAI architecture allows you to keep an audit trail of prompts and responses. |

| Will GenAI be fully released in Pega Infinity '23 or as a preview feature? | In Pega Infinity '23 and it will be a preview feature. |
| Is GenAI seperately licensed? | At the time of writing (early July 2023), the exact pricing structure is still to be confirmed. We intend to launch features in Preview mode and have more defined pricing in Pega Infinity '24. The solution may depend initially on bringing your own key, and for features embedded into specific applications a license to those applications will be required. Do check back for more specific information when Pega Infinity '23 is released. |
| Is GenAI available only on Pega Cloud? Or is it available to client cloud or on-premises customers? | Pega makes this available to Pega Cloud customers (regardless of whether your Pega Cloud host is AWS or Google) |
| Can we expect GenAI in solutions that are developed for specific verticals? For example, Financial Services Foundation or Underwriting? |
For now most of our focus is on a horizontal solution which is not tied to any vertical or solution, though we have examples of GenAI boosters built into certain vertical apps. There are 20+ use cases that will come in Pega Infinity '23 and more will come in later releases. As Alan said in PW Keynotes, we are open to listen and get feedback on particular GenAI use cases our customers would consider compelling. |

| Will there be any Pega Academy missions on Pega GenAI? | We have included GenAI boosters throughout the Platform and many of its apps. Rather than one single GenAI mission. we will instead update our training materials for the respective missions, so that you learn about these features 'in context'. These updates are due once Pega Infinity '23 has been released. |

We need to be mindful of the data we share when leveraging external AI services? Is there a guardrail/control that can be expected in the platform? |
Yes, the GenAI rule gives you a hook to do personally identifiable information (PII) filtering, store prompts/responses, etc. That is a key benefit of Pega GenAI. |
| The sensitivity of data is an important point to consider in this technology; how to assure personal information is not sent to third-party Generative AI services? | There is a checkbox on the prompt to hide PII before sending it to a GenAI service. This feature uses Text Analytics (NLP model) and can be tuned. |

Do clients have an option to choose what services Pega integrates with to find answers? In the demo we saw GenAI is asking ChatGPT. Is there a way to configure other integrations with - for example - Google's Bard? |
Yes that is why we introduced the GenAI Connect rule. Pega will roll out plug-ins for different technologies (OpenAI, Azure, Google, open source foundation models, etc.) |
| Is it possible to go through the API connector? |
The Connect Generative AI rule type masks the API connection. There is a Final activity - pxConnectToGenerativeAI - which manages all of the API configuration |
| Is GenAI integrated with ChatGPT? | Pega GenAI will cover Azure OpenAI and ChatGPT (OpenAI) in Pega Infinity '23, and we will have more GenAI tools in upcoming releases |
| How is GenAI different from calling ChatGPT API directly using a REST connector? | We are creating the rules and plugging the response OOTB, such as filling in forms, generating a data model or mapping the AI service's response directly to a scalar or page list property. |
