Enabling Edge Chromium IE Mode
Edge Chromium IE mode
To ease the transition away from the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application, Microsoft has added a mode in Edge Chromium called IE mode. This mode allows application developers to run the old Internet Explorer 11 JavaScript engine (MSHTML Trident engine) inside Chromium-based Edge.
Microsoft will support Edge Chromium IE mode until 2029.
For more information, see What is Internet Explorer (IE) mode?
Pega support for Edge Chromium IE mode
Pega supports Edge Chromium IE mode for Pega Platform™ versions earlier than Pega Platform 8.6. That is, Pega does not support Edge Chromium IE mode for Pega Platform 8.6 and later versions. See Pega Platform Client Operating System and Browser Support, Browser support, Important browser notes, Note 5.

Guidance for application developers
If you have deployed Pega Platform 6.x or Pega Platform 7.x, you will not be able to use Dev Studio after Internet Explorer 11 retires. You must use Edge Chromium with IE Mode; this is your only option.
If you have deployed Pega Platform 6.x, first verify that your Pega environment is fully functioning with Internet Explorer 11 before you use Edge Chromium with IE Mode. This differentiates a system issue from an issue between using Internet Explorer 11 and Edge Chromium with IE Mode. For more information, see What is Internet Explorer (IE) mode?
If you have deployed Pega Platform 5.x, you can run Edge Chromium in Non-Standards Mode (IE5). For more information, see Tips and tricks to manage Internet Explorer compatibility.
Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) integrates with Microsoft Edge DevTools. To debug, you can use Internet Explorer 11 or IEChooser. For more information on how to enable IEChooser while using IE mode, see Use DevTools in Internet Explorer mode.
See Pega support and testing limitations.
UI that could require the use of Internet Explorer 11 only browser
- Identify your Pega applications with UI that are currently run in Internet Explorer 11 Compatibility Mode:
- Rules that are compatible with Internet Explorer only cannot be used with modern browsers like Edge, Chrome, Safari:
- SOAP CONNECT
- CONNECT SQL
- With Pega Platform 5.x and Pega Platform 6.x, Internet Explorer is the only browser supported for Dev Studio. Internet Explorer must be rendered in non-standards mode (IE5) for Dev Studio to work in Pega Platform 5.x and Pega Platform 6.x. See Pega support and testing limitations.
- Application user portals that use third-party plugins offer UI that is compatible with Internet Explorer only.
- Application user portals that you have not migrated to Standards Mode are still using Internet Explorer 11 Compatibility Mode.
- Rules that are compatible with Internet Explorer only cannot be used with modern browsers like Edge, Chrome, Safari:
- Take the actions identified in Solutions.
Enabling Edge Chromium IE mode
To turn on IE mode in Edge Chromium, add the domain to your browser as explained in the following article:

Solutions
Best Practice: Keep current with Pega and design for the modern browsers supported for Pega Platform 8.6 and later versions, as documented in Pega Platform client operating systems and browser support, Browser Support.
If you are using a version of Pega Platform prior to Pega Platform 8.6, then Enable Edge Chromium IE mode.
