There are various ways of creating a work object. Let me list out a few below.

1. Creating from the portal. 

2. Running the flow directly.

3. From an activity.

4. Using snap start, that is a custom url which will directly redirect to the application page and create a work object.

5. Using actions on a button/link.

These are just the common examples. There are other ways of creating a work object.
