1. What is the maximum numbers of build-on applications (Pega 7 and Pega 8):
a - In the "Build on applications" configuration on the Definition tab of an Application rule?
b - In the whole application stack of an application?
2. What is the maximum number of rulesets in a ruleset stack (Pega 7 and Pega 8)?
Technically, there is no limit on the the number of applications or application components in the tree of built ons. We have personal experience with customers having as many as 900 applications in the tree (before we remove the duplicates).
Same with Rulesets in the ruleset list. Technically, there is no hard limit. However, as there are more and more applications in the built on tree, the performance of the logic that converts that tree into an ordered ruleset list can be impacted as the number of applications grows greatly.
Interesting question, why do you ask? Are you seeing any symptoms of problems?
in older 7.1 and 7.2 releases, we added the Multiple Built On Application capability. And in these older releases, there definitely was a big performance impact for very large application built on trees. We solved those performance problems via hotfixes on the old 7.x releases and all the 8.x releases contain those improvements out of the box
