it is not working with above fucntion.Value is coming as blank when i use above funcion.The property is stored on local property ,which is set dynamically and when i use local variable in above function .. i am getting blank value

Hi , i have used java step where I am getting the proeprty from step page and finally used
type=pega_rulesengine_reportingutils.pyGetTypeForProperty(propertyName,tools);
but its returning value as null value.(type as null)..
Even I have tried with proeprty set and storing the output of function in param.(param.test=@pyGetTypeForProperty(property,tools)
I am getting return value as null
