Regarding BLOB Version for Pega 8.2

We are upgrading from Pega 7.2 to 8.2. BLOB version used in Pega 7.2 is 6 i.e prconfig/database/storageversion/default.

We would like to know more information on keeping latest BLOB version along with below details.

  1. What is latest BLOB version for 8.3
  2. What is impact if we update to new version
  3. What are benefits of updating to new version
  4. What will happen if we don’t update to new version instead keep version 6

Hi,

  1. As of 8.3, the latest storage stream version is still 7 (the same since Pega 7.1.8)
  2. There is no functional impact to changing storage stream versions. You can change the version at any time (and even change it back if desired). The storageversion prconfig setting controls how blobs are written to the database. Your existing blobs in the database will still be version 6 and still be read by the system.
  3. The newer version is more compact and faster to process. See the 7.1.8 release note for a little more info: https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/release-note/optimized-storage-stream-reduced-blob-size
  4. Pega8 is fully compatible with both version 6 and 7 of the storage stream. That said, I recommend switching to the new version. It has been the default for 4+ years.
