To query a DB as part of a Process/Action

I'm brand new to Pega Express and I'm trying to build an application who will guide me through all Insolvent Customer from a general business.
I'm keeping all the Customer situation along with its insolvent status within an external DB, my goal is to develop the application through Case Lifecycle that will intercept Customer with overdue payment, then will filter some specific account, then will run an action to trigger them to pay.
Question is:
can Pega Express run a query as part of one stage of the Lifecycle Case, against a DB?
