Purpose of having trused origins in Mashup security in Application rule

I wonder why do we have the trusted origin section under mashup security in Application rule.

I have generated a mashup on some test.abc.com pega instance and have deployed it in testing.testing.com. My mashup code works with/without adding testing.com domain in application rule.
