Problems while taking course on Pega Academy

On behalf of Dragos:

I encountered some problems with different browsers while taking the Decision Management consultant course.

  • On Chrome in Designer Studio the dropdowns do not work properly. Once the dropdown menu “drops”, it freezes and none of the items are highlighted or expand.
  • On Edge connecting the components on the canvas form Decision Manager does not work.
  • On IE moving the components around the canvas of the Decision Manager was moving the entire canvas.
  • On Firefox I could not click on any of the menu items in the Decision Manager

I used the latest version of the mentioned browsers, while the courses provide access to Pega Platform 7.2.

Are this known bugs ?

Thanks for reaching out to us. I will address your questions one by one:

  • On Chrome in Designer Studio the dropdowns do not work properly. Once the dropdown menu “drops”, it freezes and none of the items are highlighted or expand.

When you request a cloud instance, note that this instance is a fresh new instance, dedicated to you. Therefore first time you use it, first clicks you do, it takes a little while as the system needs to 'warm' up. If you waited too long and sub menu still doesn't work you may need to disable Touch Events API in Chrome. Please check out this post: https://collaborate.pega.com/question/sub-menu-not-loading. 

  • On Edge connecting the components on the canvas form, Decision Manager does not work.

We do not support Edge browser. 

  • On IE moving the components around the canvas of the Decision Manager was moving the entire canvas.

If your mouse pointer is 'hand' and you click anywhere in the canvas, the entire canvas moves. If your mouse pointer is an arrow (or hand) and you click on a specific component then only that component moves. Give it some try to experiment with it.

  • On Firefox I could not click on any of the menu items in the Decision Manager

I am not sure we certify on Firefox. Chrome and IE should definitely work.

I provided a response to your points below. Also I tried this morning and was able to recreate all the issues described. I ignored the Firefox issues since you indicated it is not supported.

  • When you request a cloud instance, note that this instance is a fresh new instance, dedicated to you. Once you get the dropdown menu it will work instantly next time 

I was trying this a couple of hours after I launched the instance. Also I only saw it happening on Chrome, so I do not think that what you describe is the problem. The chrome version is 60 which I think is the latest. 

  •  When you hover over on a component, the triangle shape appears. That's where you need to click to start drawing lines. Please check the solution video if you encounter issues. The instances are used by many students successfully. If you latest browser as per our recommendation things should work just fine.

I tried for a couple of minutes in many ways to connect the two components, including the way you described, and also asked some of my colleagues to try it out and it did not work. After I switched from Edge to Chrome it worked. Edge version is 40

I made sure the mouse pointer is not the "hand".  I only saw this problem on IE and after I switched it worked. IE version is 11.540

2. Edge is not supported.

Thanks Miki, that seemed to do the trick for Chrome.

Since I did not encounter any other problems with Chrome, I will be using this one for the rest of the course.
