Pega Silverlight Silent Installation Document
In our environment we are going to IE11 in native mode. And when we check Pega 7.1.7 does not support Word merge activex component in IE11 native mode. So we are going to change Word merge activex functionality with silverlight one. But to do that we need to install silverlight to all client machines. (nearly 5000 machines) So our IT request silent installation document from Pega and recommendation to make this client installations. We could not find it on PDN. Could you pls help about this.

Assuming that workstations of your production users are locked down, as is typical, you will need help from your IT administrators to roll-out (“push”) Silverlight (SL) pre-requisites provided in the Pega 7.1.7 release.
IT usually deploys custom remote administration approach best suited to specifics of their enterprise, so Pega can only provide a suggestion. I will outline it here, so your IT admins can customize it to their needs:

Open pzSLpreReqs.cab Rule-File-Binary instance on the production Pega server. This insures installation of the correct version of SL pre-requisites.

Download pzSLpreReqs.cab into any folder.

This is a ZIP file. Open it and extract three files into that folder.

Run setup.exe with administrative privileges!
Finally, I found that the best way to find relevant for this issue articles on PDN is to search on the “pzSLpreReqs” keyword.

For our installation standards and we have nearly 10.000 client to install on PROD to make it less risky we need answers for our following questions.
- Hardware and software requirements of the software. (Which runtime modules needed? Browser version and other components?)
- What are the installation parameters? (Do we need to use .exe file or can we use .msi file? Is there a log parameter for logging?)
- Is there any application that must be closed during installation?
- We are always updating Microsoft Silverlight. Can these updates cause problems to the Pega for Silverlight?

If your IT chooses to use Pega provided installer, as opposed to building their own, they should follow steps outlined in my post above with these minor clarifications:
- setup.exe requires no parameters.
- No additional runtime modules and/or components are needed.
- Refer to Pega 7.1.7 "Platform Support Guide" for list of supported browsers / versions. Also, please note that Chrome discontinued Silverlight support about a year ago, starting with version 42.
Common sense rules to minimize installation risks, that your IT most likely is aware of, include:
- Close all non-critical application prior to installation.
- Test on a representative subset of user workstations prior to full rollout.
- Make sure enterprise application are not affected prior to any system update, including Microsoft Silverlight runtime update.
