Pega Robotics Studio 8: change a project's name
Is there a simple and/or official way to change a project's name?
I managed to (change Project1 to ABC) by manually changing settings and filenames that I noticed, but there has to be a better way?
1. Change the Assembly Name and Default Namespace
2. Manually change the top level project directory name in Explorer:

4. Open the ossln file in Notepad and change the directory name within:
5. (housekeeping - not essential for functionality) Use windows search to identify old dll, pdb and osproj files and manually delete them.
I haven't tested all functionality, but it appears to work.

That is really the most complete way. An even simpler way is to simply create a new project (named correctly) and import the items from the incorrectly named project.

I added housekeeping step 5; it is quite messy. So there is no official method from the product team? There should be - could we provide the above steps to them and get them to certify it?
How does one import a project? There is "Manage Imported Projects" in the Project menu but no indication of how to add to the "Available Projects" on the left.

To add an existing project to the solution, you simply right-click on the solution in the Solution Explorer window and select "Add-->Existing Project" and then browse to the osprj file. This will not make a copy of the project but will instead reference it from wherever it is located, so if it belongs to multiple solutions, any of them can edit it.

From my observation,
1. adding a project into a solution doesn't import the project (i.e. create a copy of it) but creates a link to the original project - changes to the imported project update the original project on disk;
2. adding an existing item (i.e. adding an automation) into a project appears to actually import it (i.e. create a copy) - changes to that automation don't affect the original automation in the original location.
Is this understanding correct, or did I use it wrong?

Adding an existing project does only add a reference to the project into the solution file - it does not copy the project. This is the way Visual Studio works with other languages as well.
Adding an existing item does indeed make a copy.

Thank you for the confirmation - it seems all the answers were in the previous responses but I hadn't been reading them properly, or wasn't aware of the nuances between projects and items when I first read them.
