Pega LSA 731 course VM kills the tomcat process when search indexing is turned on
I have been trying to use the Pega 731 VM provided in the Pega LSA course , installation is fine and the vm starts up as well but after running it for a couple of minutes the tomcat process gets killed by the OS.
The error that come up is
Out of memory: Kill process 1234 (java) score 590 or sacrifice child
Killed Process 1234 , .....
I the host OS has 8 GB ram and the guest OS (pega centos VM) has 6 GB of memory allocated to it .
Any help on how to resolve this issue would be really great .

Figured out the root cause of the issue and put a solution in place to solve it so sharing it with the rest of the community in case someone else runs into the same problem.
The root cause was the amount of swap space in the LSA 731 VM was set to 2 GB even though the amount of RAM in the VM image is 6 GB , whereas usually the swap is twice that of RAM.
So went down the rabbit hole trying to figure out how to increase swap space given that the logical volume used for swap in the VM had no free space. What got it working was the following steps
- Shut down the VM
- Added a new virtual hard disk in Virtual box about 6 GB in size
- Restart the VM
- Increase the swap partition

sudo pvcreate /dev/sdbsudo vgextend vg_centos67 /dev/sdb (change the volume name if needed in my case it was vg_centos67)sudo lvextend -L+6G /dev/vg_centos67/lv_swap

Activate the swap partition
-
swapoff -v /dev/vg_centos67/lv_swapmkswap /dev/vg_centos67/lv_swapswapon -va

Hi Dutta,
Even I am facing the same issue for Pega VM 8.0. I understand that this problem is related to some memory issue. I do not find the resolution yet.
The steps which you provided is not clear to us.Appreciate if you could please elaborate the solution. Where do I need to run these commands ? Is there another way we can do some setting on VM preferences?

Fayaz - the commands need to be run on the terminal window which opens up when you start the VM. Run the commands after you have added the virtual hard disk in Virtual box .
