PEGA with Json object

Hello  - I am trying to build a PEGA workflow which required some external data from different system. I am using Json object to pass the data from a system to PEGA. Is it a good practice? or we should go with XML. The reason we went for Json is lightweight than XML. Please suggest if any other option is present.
