Maximum Limit on subcase creation

Is there a limit or best practice that we need to follow on the number of maximum child cases can a parent case hold ?

Just wanted to know on a best practice perspective at least an approximate number of sub cases a parent case can have. We don't have a number yet but wanted to limit the subcase creation to an extent thinking it would be difficult to maintain parent case if the volume of subcases is too high. Please advice

To provide more context on this, we are working on a smart dispute application, and wanted to know on a best practice perspective what would be the maximum number of Dispute cases (D-) can a Claim case (C-) hold ?. If we are not controlling this the users may add more than 100 dispute transactions and may lead to maintenance issues.
