You can make use of the activity SendEmailNotification to send emails. Basically, this activity will gathers all the  parameters for email and passes them to send email function.

Hi, 

Can try SendSimpleEmail with "BatchSend" parameter to false. Because this activity allows you to pass correspondence rules as well.
