How can I download a file by clicking on filedownload link from a secured web page using Openspan 7.1 web adapter

Tried the below steps

1. Interogatted the page with the file link.  Eg: https://support.openspan.com/link/portal/9147/9147/Article/699/OpenSpan-version-7-1-Release-Notes
2. I was not able to interrogate the IE11 Oepn save/saveas buttons from the IE popup window that appears at the bottom of the browser
3.  Executing the performclick method of the link opens the IE popup and waits.
4.  I would prefer not to use the script - webclient approach as the page is secured

Thanks in advance for any alternative approaches.
