Edit Input to allow only numbers and restrict numbers to length 5
I have a requirement to allow only numbers in the integer property with restrict the length upto 5 digits using edit input rule. Is there any OOB pega rule is available for this?
I want to know what is slice in pega edit input rule?

Hi Vikas,
I have to use edit input rule to slice the characters. I have one integer property which needs to allow only numbers upto max length 5.
how to invoke the Slice method in edit input rule. I have written the code like below.
int length = theValue.length();
String value= theValue;
if(length>5)
{
String part= value.slice(0,5);
}
Could you please help me in this. it is throwing the error like "The method slice(int, int) is undefined for the type String"

slice() is not a method of String class it is defined in CharBuffer class, you can use substring method if you want.
But is there any reason why you are not using Max length option in the advance tab of the property rule? This option will restrict the number of characters to be entered to the value defined(in your case 5).

The max Length option in the advance tab is not working unless read only format checkbox is checked. We need edit input rule to slice the extra values that user enter more than 5 digits length.
Could you please let me how to invoke the slice() method?

To use the slice() method, you will have to first get the string value in a CharBuffer object and then use the slice method and then get this value back to the String object.
Instead you can use one of the below 2 approaches:
1.
if(theValue.length()>5)
theValue = theValue.substring(0,5);
2. In the cell property where you have mapped this property to a control in section limit the maximum characters to be entered as 5.

Hi Sridhar,
You can use the edit validate rule "IsInteger" and in the Advance tab of the property rule you can restrict the number of characters in the "Max Length" field.
