Display a message when click on x button on browser -Edge

We have a requirement to display a message when a user click on x button on browser -Edge. Attaching the implementation. Message being blocked. i.e: alert message blocked on the event OnbeforeUnload. Attaching analysis.

Also whether this will impact screen refresh if we use OnbeforeUnload?
