I have always used Designer Studio for development. When I create a "New Application" Pega automatically set MyApp:Authors instead of MyApp:Administrators access group, that means Pega recommends Pega Express over Designer Studio, I assume. Pega says Pega Express is handy and helps quick build, but I am not Sales and no need to build a quick demo but more of a stable application for critical use. In that case, is Pega Express still advantageous over Designer Studio? I never used Pega Express and I am not knowledgeable. I always delete Authors access group or Express portal for clean up but I just wanted to know if that is wrong to do. My guess is Designer Studio can do anything that Pega Express can do and the reverse is not correct (Pega Express does not provide all that Designer Studio)? Please let me know.
Pega recommends using Pega Express extensively as the rules generated from Express are autogenerated and they extend from the correct design templates. These rules can be modified from the express itself easily by the business users(later in production). Whereas the rules developed from designer studio are not very business friendly and requires a developer to modify them

Though BAs and Salespersons are most welcome to use Pega Express, it’s wrong to think that its only meant for them. It's for everyone. Suppose to achieve a requirement it takes 30 mins to create different rules and then making sure each one of them is referenced at the required places. Now if that can be achieved in 3-4 minutes, which one we should prefer? Express does a lot of heavy lifting in the background by generating the required rules and with the best design principles. So be it BA, Salesperson or a seasoned Pega developer, Express should be the first option to build your application. And yes, Express may not have some advanced features that you might want sometimes. At that time you can easily move to Dev studio, configure what you need and come back to App studio.
