Difference between /api/ and /PRRestService/ servlets

Hi all,

Pega has a huge variety of servlets by default. One of them is the /PRRestService* 

This is for the monitoring via the ping service: /PRRestService/monitor/pingService/ping

I noticed that if we create a Service-Rest Rule the PRRestService servlet is not used but /api* instead. Is there a difference between the two of them?
