Database Rules

How is it possible to control on Pega Cloud the number of connections that the tomcat application server is going to make to db servers, when a jdbc url connection is defined in a database rule (no connection pool configured ) ?

What node types will handle connections to external database defined in a database url, using a jdbc url ?
