Categorise the grid rows in Table

We have a requirement to categorise the grid rows and also have to define a custom category header for grouping, but the check box for the custom category header is disabled in the table/grid configuration. I have gone through the checkbox disabled condition as well but still no luck. can any one please help when the checkbox is enabled in the Table?
