Right, you can generate the SQL using data transforms but you need an activity or function to execute it.

is the use case to build the query using properties pxSelectStatement & pyWhereClause and call RDB- methods to process the query? if yes, we could build the query from data transforms.

I am not sure I understand the intent of generating SQL through data transforms. Could you elaborate on the use cases which need custom SQL generated through data transforms?
I dont think using data transform sql table can be updated, only set or data manipulation can be done through data transform but it can perform other methods which is easily done through activities .
