Approaches to build headless pega workflow solution (Separate UI and process layer)

We are on Pega 8.2.2 and can upgrade to 8.4 if needed. We want to explore options in making PEGA as a headless workflow solution. Utilize pega as a case management tool and take out UI layer outside pega. I have referred below closed threads on this same topic and would like to understand if there are more options in latest PEGA versions and if there any lesson learnt from your previous experience.
