Overview
Microsoft security update KB5124008, released on September 8, 2026, introduced changes that prevent affected versions of Pega Robotic Automation from working with applications on Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2.
The issue affects Pega Native Foundation (PNF), which is used by all versions of Pega Robot Studio and Pega Robot Runtime. Microsoft cumulative security update KB5129195, released on September 14, 2026, includes the changes introduced in KB5124008. Later cumulative Microsoft updates might also include these changes.
Pega has released PNF build Proprietary information hidden2 to resolve this issue. The Robot Studio and Robot Runtime downloads labeled “22.1.72 Updated” and “25.1.26 Updated” include this fix, and all future PNF versions will also include it.
How to tell if you are affected by this issue
You are affected by this issue if you receive an error that says:
The Process <Application> failed to start within the given timeframe.
This error indicates that Pega Robot Studio or Pega Robot Runtime is unable to start the application or the process that you are automating.
What to do if you are affected by this issue
Download and install an updated version of Pega Robot Studio or Pega Robot Runtime that includes PNF build Proprietary information hidden2.
If you are using Pega Robot Studio version 22.1, you must take one of these additional actions:
- Manually replace the native.ini file in the Robot Studio installation folder with the updated version included in the PNF installation folder.
- Reinstall Pega Robot Studio version 22.1, which will automatically copy the native.ini file into the correct folder.
Note: These actions are not required for Robot Studio R25 or any version of Robot Runtime.
