Firewalls disconnect Elasticsearch nodes.
Explanation
Elasticsearch uses long-running connections to maintain contact between Elasticsearch nodes. Some on-premises deployments might have firewalls that automatically close connections between the nodes, which leads to the timeout of Elasticsearch.
Solution
You can configure Elasticsearch to ping each node to prevent firewalls from closing the connections between the nodes. On each Linux virtual machine that runs Elasticsearch nodes, adjust the TCP keepalive settings according to your requirements.
