PegaAPI difference between 'perform with saveOnly' and 'updateCaseDetails'

Can anyone tell me what in PegaAPI is the difference between:  

  • performing a 'pzPerformAssignment' with saveOnly set to 'true'
  • performing a 'pzUpdateCase'

I can't seem to find any info on the new 'saveOnly' parameter except for the note 'Save field updates only; not submitting for processing'.
